What is Turbo Jet Engine?
Turbo jet engine:-
Turbo jet
engine most common type of air breathing engine is known as turbo jet engine.
This
engine consists of diffuses a mechanical compressor a combustion chamber
mechanical turbine and an exhaust nozzle.
The
function of diffuse is to convert the kinetic energy of engine air
into a static pressure rise. After this air convert to the mechanical
compressor either axial or centrifugal which further compress the air and
delivers it to the combustion chamber.
The
turbine is directly connected to the compressor and all the power developed by
the turbine is observed by the compressor and the auxiliary apparatus.
The main
function of the turbine is to provide power to drive compressor.
Common parts of a Turbo jet engine:-
- Inlet:-
The inlet
in which the engine brings free steam air into the engine. The work of an inlet
is to decelerate the incoming air and convert to the static pressure.

- Compressors:-
Compressors
are used to increase the air pressure before enters in the combustion.

- Burner:-
The
burner and the combustion chamber between the compressor. The fuel is mixed
with high pressure and burned to create high temperature exhaust gas to turn
power turbine.

- Turbine:-
Turbine
converts thermal energy to kinetic energy by nozzles then rotational mechanical
energy in a spinning rotor.

- Nozzle:-
The
Nozzle is convert to the thermal energy to kinetic energy in order to obtain a
high exhaust velocity.

Advantages of turbo jet engine:-
1. Simple construction and low weight to power ratio.
2. Higher rate of climb.
3. Low maintenance.
4. High speed operation is possible.
Disadvantages of turbo jet engine:-
1. At takeoff and climb low thrust is available.
2. At lower speeds efficiency reduced.
3. Turbo jet engine is noisy.
