- What is the machine:-
A device which gains some energy and converts into desired useful work that is
called machine.

Types of the machine:-
There are three types of machines.
1. A machine which generating mechanical energy:-
These types of machines some energy such as heat, hydraulic, electrical, etc convert into mechanical work. It is also called prime movers.
Like Internal combustion Engine in which chemical energy is converted into the heat energy which turn is converted into the mechanical work in the rotation of the wheel to the vehicle.
2. Machines which transforming mechanical energy:-
These types of machines convert mechanical energy into other energy forms is known as Transforming mechanical energy machines such as Hydraulic energy, Electrical energy, etc. It is also called converting machines.
Example:- Electrical generator, Hydraulic pump etc.
Like Electric generator in which rotation of the shaft (Mechanical energy) is converted into electrical energy.
3. Machines which utilizing mechanical energy:-
This type of machine is receiving mechanical energy utilizing various applications.
Example:- Lathe (CNC) machine, Milling machines, etc.
Like Lathe machine that utilizes mechanical energy.
- Theory of machine:-
The branch of engineering science which deals with the study of
relative motion between the various machine elements and the force which act
upon them, that is known as the theory of machine.
